Welcome to Albury Parish

The Parish of Albury, in Surrey, is set in the middle of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, flanked by the North Downs Way and with the Tillingbourne River running through the village.

The parish has two churches, one set in the heart of the village and the other on Farley Green, both of which have a lively and active congregation.  There is a popular village shop, and a village hall, run by the parish council for the benefit of the village.

Albury benefits from being close enough to Guildford to have all the conveniences of town shopping and access to a good rail service and the motorway network, but still retains all its rural charm and all of the benefits of country living.  The footpath network is vast and the views across the South Downs from various points in the parish are stunning.

Albury is an active village, with a number of community activities such as a cricket and football club, bowls, a history society and local events in the village hall.  The Parish Council has a piece of land by the river, 'the meadow', which makes a lovely area for family picnics and village gatherings and there is a small recreation ground close to the parish church.

Surrey Highways confirms the A248 Road will be open by tomorrow 17th September am.

This update of the A248 road closure in Albury has been provided by Surrey County Council on August 8 2020.

Update on the works now underway at Albury Park Bridge (on the A248 Sherbourne)

On 27th July, as an emergency response to a void that appeared in the carriageway over the bridge, the road was closed to traffic - from the A25 junction down to the south side of the bridge (junction with New Road). The closure and diversion maps are below. Last week (on 5th Aug), the bridge was also closed to pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians.

I believe 6 x VMS have been placed in addition to normal diversion signage and a bus shuttle service is also in place (at our expense).

The hole that appeared in the carriageway was in fact just an indication of a bigger issue below, caused by a failing culvert below which needs to replaced. This means excavations across the whole width - therefore the bridge is now impassable for all.

We have had a contractor on site for some time now - carrying out the investigation, damming the water flow to the culvert and now excavating to remove the old brick pipe. Starting this week, they will be working 7 days a week (where they have resources to do so). We expect them to be on site for 3-4 weeks from now.

The ‘hard’ closure covers the whole bridge and adjacent footbridge.

Known Issues to date

Lots of drivers were ignoring the closure signs, so chicanes and additional signage were put in place (at convenient turning spots). There is a notice at the A25 junction to give cyclists/pedestrians advanced warning that the footway is also closed.
